An 80-year-old hunter from Duluth walked out of the woods in Lake County unharmed Sunday after spending the night outside.

A friend who had hunted with the man earlier in the day called the Lake County Sheriff's Office around 10 p.m. Saturday to report that the man's truck still was parked in the Sullivan Lake area near Toimi, although the missing man usually comes out of the woods around 4:30 p.m. The Lake and St. Louis County Search and Rescue squads were called out to search the area. About 3:40 a.m., the search was called off until daylight.

Shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday, the hunter came out of the woods. He told searchers that snow had made it difficult for him to continue Saturday. He decided to make a fire, wait until morning and walk out then.

The man was surprised to see all the people out looking for him. Other than being wet, cold and hungry, he was in good physical condition and did not need medical care.

The Duluth News-Tribune and the Herald are both Forum Communications Co. newspapers.
