Fargo Shanley’s Reile Payne has been named winner of the 2020 North Dakota Miss Basketball award.
The award goes to the season’s outstanding senior girls high school basketball player, as selected by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
Payne led the Eastern Dakota Conference in the regular season in scoring (20.4 ppg), rebounding (11.2 rpg) and steals (6.2 spg), was second in 3-point field goals (50) and eighth in assists (3.5 apg).
Payne received 56 points and 10 first-place votes in the voting. She was followed by Callie Ronningen (42 points) of undefeated Class B state champion Langdon-Edmore-Munich and Jes Mertens (34 points) of Devils Lake. Mertens and Ronningen each received three first-place votes.
Ronningen was named Class B senior player of the year after averaging 18.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.6 steals a game for the 27-0 Cardinals.
Mertens took averages of 12.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.3 steals and 3.9 assists a game into the Class A state tournament. She was named Eastern Dakota Conference senior player of the year.
