Returning starters: Jr. Mason Love (7 ppg, 7.1 apg, 3.7 rpg), jr. Alex Barbot (9.1 ppg, 3 rpg, 2 apg), jr. Mason Gravseth (10.2 ppg, 7.9 rpg), sr. Caden Fultz (6.5 ppg, 4.3 rpg).

Other top returners: Sr. Parker Brown (2.6 ppg).

Potential new impact players: Sr. Ben Hoverson, sr. Trystan Tatum, sr. Torey Battles.

Knights coach Carlson says: "I think we’ll take a step forward this year. We have a lot of experience. That will help us be competitive in our league. And we have talent. Mason Love is a good playmaker. We have guys like Barbot, Hoverson and Brown who can hit shots. And Gravseth is a good post player, a big, strong kid who can score, rebound and defend in the paint. We won’t have to rely on one or two guys. We need to take a step forward on defense. That was a problem last year.’’

GF Red River

Coach: Kirby Krefting.

2018-19 record: 14-13, No. 3 seed out of East Region tournament, fourth at Class A state tournament.

Key graduation losses: Brett Klefstad, Jackson Feller.

Returning starters: Sr. Brady Dvorak (all-EDC, 14.9 ppg, 3.5 apg, 3.4 rpg), jr. William Obioha (all-EDC, 12.4 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.1 bpg), sr. Bryce Enerson (11 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 2.4 apg), sr. Cole Benson (7.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.4 apg).

Other top returners: Sr. Kobe Springer (3.3 ppg), soph. Paine Parks (1.8 ppg).

Potential new impact players: Jr. Khamani Steckler, sr. Matt Trader.

Roughriders coach Krefting says: "We have high expectations. The majority of this group of guys has been playing on the varsity level since they were sophomores. They’ve had success. Our strength is our athleticism. They’re all multisport athletes. We’ll get into a transition game. We have pretty good outside shooters. And this group will get things done on defense because of our athleticism.’’

Devils Lake

2018-19 record: 12-13, eliminated in loser-out, state-qualifier round of region tournament.

Top returners: Sr. Grant Nelson (all-state, all-EDC, 16.4 ppg, 11.8 rpg, 5.1 bpg), sr. Joey Frelich (5.6 ppg), sr. Michael Widmer (5.4 ppg, 2.5 rpg), sr. Braden Fee.

Girls

GF Central

Coach: D.J. Burris.

2018-19 record: 0-22, eliminated in play-in round of East Region tournament.

Key graduation losses: None.

Returning starters: Jr. Haley Gereau (7.1 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 1.5 bpg), jr. Lauren Hillman (5.6 ppg, 3.5 rpg), jr. Maddie Myrold (6.1 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.1 spg), sr. Megan Peck (3.4 ppg, 3.5 rpg).

Other top returners: Soph. Ashley Gereau (2.9 ppg), sr. Grace Foltz.

Potential new impact players: Sr. Mekynsi Castoreno, soph. Ella Knutson, soph. Marin Aure, jr. Taylar Baker.

Knights coach Burris says: "We have to find people who can step up and score. We lacked a consistent scorer last year. We won’t have a big presence in the post because of our (lack of) size. Haley Gereau is our best post player, but we hope we can move her away from the basket and work on some mismatches. Defensively, these girls will get after things. They will work hard. Hopefully that can generate some turnovers and some transition offense.’’

GF Red River

Coach: Kent Ripplinger.

2018-19 record: 16-10, East Region No. 4 seed at state tournament, sixth at state.

Key graduation losses: Kenady Steffan, Jadyn Sondrol, Karlie Robson, Jordan Burris.

Returning starters: Sr. Shelby Frank (all-EDC, 11.5 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 2.4 bpg), jr. Alex Page (10.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg).

Other top returners: Sr. Claire Leach (3.1 ppg), jr. Jasmine Sondrol (5.5 ppg, 3.2 rpg), jr. Jade Azure (2.8 ppg, 2 rpg).

Potential new impact players: Jr. Ella Fosse, jr. Kaylee Lancaster.

Roughriders coach Ripplinger says: "Our strength will be our length and athleticism with girls like Jasmine, Alex, Kaylee and Shelby. We’ll continue to try to push the tempo with our pressure defense. We should be disruptive, getting some steals that could lead to transition baskets. Our length will make it tough for teams to get good looks at the basket. Our biggest question mark is ballhandling. Kenady was our starting point guard and when she sat Jadyn played the point. Hopefully Ella will step in and fill that role.’’
