MINNEAPOLIS -- Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

In the Twin Cities, that means it's game day.

UND and Minnesota are taking their rivalry to the holiday this weekend -- something that makes the Fighting Hawks happy.

Because the Gophers are playing a home football game against rival Wisconsin on Saturday, it has long been known that this hockey series would be avoiding a Saturday game.

The other option would be playing Friday-Sunday like UND did Thanksgiving weekend in 2015 when it was at Michigan State. However, because UND has to travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., next week, the Fighting Hawks were hoping this series would be played Thursday-Friday, instead of having a short week ahead of the Western Michigan series.

The Thanksgiving Day game is not close to being sold out yet, which could mean a lot of UND fans finding their way into 3M Arena at Mariucci.

This will be UND's first trip to the venue since it was renamed from Mariucci Arena to 3M Arena at Mariucci.

The pick

One on hand, UND has been better than Minnesota this season in virtually every statistic and metric. On the other hand, no matter how many great teams UND has brought to Minneapolis, it has never had much success in 3M Arena at Mariucci. Since the building opened in 1993, UND has swept there just once. Considering both pieces of evidence, all signs point to this series ending in a split.

Minnesota 4-3, UND 3-1
