Signing day used to provide a glimpse at which players are coming into college hockey programs in the future.
Signing day arrived Wednesday, but did the opposite.
It revealed that three players who were previously verbally committed to UND will no longer play college hockey for the Fighting Hawks.
According to junior hockey sources, forwards Michael Mancinelli and Carter Randklev and defenseman Luke Reid are no longer committed to UND and will re-start their recruiting processes.
All three were eligible to sign National Letters of Intent this week.
Randklev, of Moorhead, plays for the Fargo Force in the United States Hockey League. After suffering a season-ending knee injury last November, Randklev has returned to the ice and has two assists in seven games for the Force.
Randklev, a 1999-born forward, is in his last year of junior hockey and will be heading to college in the fall. Randklev was previously committed to Arizona State, but re-opened his recruitment and committed to UND in December 2017.
Mancinelli was UND's longest-standing commitment. He committed way back in March of 2016 when he was playing for Compuware's bantam team in Michigan. Mancinelli has since played for three USHL teams -- the Madison Capitals, Fargo Force and Des Moines Buccaneers.
Mancinelli, a 2001-born player from Northville, Mich., has six goals and nine points in 13 games for Des Moines this season. He recently informed the UND coaching staff that he was going to part ways. It was first reported by Mike McMahon of College Hockey News.

UND will likely sign forwards Riese Gaber of the Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL), Griffin Ness of the Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL), Ethan Bowen of the Chilliwack Chiefs (British Columbia Hockey League), Brendan Budy of the Langley Rivermen (BCHL) and Massimo Rizzo of the Coquitlam Express (BCHL).
Reid, who is expected to be picked in June's NHL Draft, plays for the Chicago Steel in the USHL. Reid has three assists in 14 games this season for Chicago. His de-commitment was first reported by longtime college hockey journalist Mark Divver.

UND has a glut of defensemen committed for the next few years, including potential NHL first- or second-round draft picks Jake Sanderson and Tyler Kleven, Detroit Red Wings fifth-round pick Cooper Moore, potential 2020 draftee Mitchell Miller and Luke Bast, the brother of UND junior Gabe Bast.
All of those defensemen are eligible to sign letters of intent.
UND's other defense commitment is just a sophomore, Trey Ausmus of East Grand Forks Senior High.
The UND coaching staff is not allowed to comment on recruits unless they've signed a National Letter of Intent.
While Randklev committed to UND during his senior season, both Mancinelli and Reid were early recruits. Mancinelli committed when he was just 14 years old. Reid was 15.
College hockey has tried to root out early recruiting with new rules that prohibit teams from speaking to players until Jan. 1 of a prospect's sophomore year and prevents teams from offering players until Aug. 1 prior to a prospect's junior year.
Under the new recruiting rules, UND would not have been able to offer Mancinelli and Reid when they did.
