* Jordan Kawaguchi, UND, game-winning goal

** Matt Kiersted, UND, goal

*** Robbie Beydoun, Michigan Tech, 21 saves

First period

Michigan Tech 1, UND 0 -- Justin Misiak (Alex Smith, Brian Halonen) 5:50. The first stopped of the game comes nearly six minutes in and it comes on a goal by Michigan Tech's fourth line. Smith has the puck below the goal line and spots Misiak open in the slot. He gets the puck to him, Misiak makes a move to get free from Jackson Keane and sends a backhand past UND goalie Adam Scheel. It is Michigan Tech's first shot on goal of the game.

Michigan Tech 1, UND 1 -- Matt Kiersted 10:41. Kiersted has the puck and the left point and launches a point shot with Zach Yon and Dixon Bowen providing screens. Bowen tries to tip the puck and misses, but because of the screens, Tech goalie Robbie Beydoun never sees it and the puck goes just inside the post.

Second period

No scoring.

Third period

UND 2, Michigan Tech 1 -- Jordan Kawaguchi (Collin Adams) 12:29. Struggling to score on the power play, Cole Smith takes a penalty to turn a power play into a 4-on-4 and UND scores. Adams makes a terrific pass to open space for Kawaguchi, who stick handles between defenders, changes the angle of his shot and puts it just inside the blocker-side post for the go-ahead goal.

UND 3, Michigan Tech 1 -- Gavin Hain (Cole Smith, Andrew Peski) 19:33 (en). Hain ices it with a shot from the neutral zone.

Pregame comments

With Colton Poolman and Gabe Bast out with injuries, Josh Rieger is the sixth defenseman. Jackson Keane is the extra skater. Jasper Weatherby has been moved up in the lineup to play with Shane Pinto and Westin Michaud, centering the second line. The Gavin Hain, Mark Senden and Cole Smith line gets a second opportunity to play together this season. UND tried it once and it only lasted two periods. Zach Yon, now healthy, is in for the first time this season.
