Boys hockey

EGF Senior High 9, Park Rapids 1: Cole Avery scored four goals to lead East Grand Forks to a road win Thursday over Park Rapids.

Green Wave freshman defenseman Trey Ausmus added two goals and four assists, while Tanner Mack had two goals and two assists and Landon Parker had a goal and two assists.

The Wave improved to 5-1.

Girls hockey

EGF Senior High 2, Alexandria 0: East Grand Forks used a power-play goal from Kylie Stauss and an empty-net goal from Madison McDonald to beat Alexandria on Thursday night at the Civic Center.

McDonald's goal was her team-best ninth of the season for the unranked Green Wave, who improved to 5-2-2.

Alexandria, ranked No. 9 in the last Minnesota state Class A poll, dropped to 3-5-0.

Alexandria goalie Hailee Bailey made 36 saves, while EGF's Megan Birkholz stopped 16 shots.

Boys basketball

EGF Sacred Heart 74, Goodridge-Grygla 36: Brenden Bethke led three East Grand Forks Sacred Heart players in double figures as the visiting Eagles beat Goodridge-Grygla on Thursday night.

Bethke had a game-high 18 points, while Oscar Ortiz finished with 11 and Ian Evavold had 10 for Sacred Heart, which improved to 1-1.

"Our defense was pretty good for 38 minutes," Sacred Heart coach Destry Sterkel said. "We did a good job pushing the ball and scoring transition points. We shared the basketball with such unselfishness and it led to wide open shots for our guys."

Sacred Heart hosts Northern Freeze tonight.
