UT Rio Grande Valley downs turnover-plagued UND in men's basketball
EDINBURG, Texas—UND didn't take care of the basketball against UT Rio Grande Valley on Wednesday night. And the end result was predictable.
UND's season-high 30 turnovers helped lead UT Rio Grande Valley to a 70-56 win over the Fighting Hawks. The loss dropped UND to 4-5 while the Vaqueros improved to 7-4.
UT Rio Grande Valley turned UND's turnover problems into 29 points.
Cortez Seales led UND with 17 points, going 7-for-12 from the field. Kienan Walter added 15 for the Hawks.
Javon Levi's 15 points led the Vaqueros.
UND turned the ball over seven times in the first six minutes. UT Rio Grande Valley led 35-18 at the half. Of UND's 30 turnovers, 23 came in the first half.
UT Rio Grande Valley stretched the lead to 24 points in the second half before the Hawks cut the deficit to nine points late in the game.
UND will play Milwaukee at home Sunday at 3 p.m.
With the win, the Western Athletic Conference claimed the inaugural Summit League/WAC Challenge series with five wins.
UND now has lost 12 straight games in the month of December.
