Girls hockey

EGF Senior High 5, Thief River Falls 2: Livia Pesch scored in the first and third periods to lift East Grand Forks Senior High to a win over Thief River Falls on Monday in the semifinals of the Minnesota Section 8A tournament in Warroad, Minn.

The Green Wave also received goals from Lexie Estad, Cynthia Loven and Madison McDonald.

The No. 3 seed Wave, who improved to 18-8-1, will play No. 1 Warroad in the section championship game at 7 p.m. Thursday in Warroad.

Girls basketball

EGF Sacred Heart 58, Kittson County Central 51: East Grand Forks Sacred Heart landed four players in double figures en route to a home win over Kittson County Central on Monday.

Sydney Lloyd led the Eagles with 15 points, followed by Ivy Edwards with 14, Katelyn Rudolph with 12 and Jessica Remer with 10.

Auto racing

Devils Lake Speedway expands schedule: The Devils Lake Speedway announced Monday that it will host nine full sprint car shows and 10 full late model shows during the 2018 season.

Speedway owner Nolan Olmstead said sprints and lates will race together on seven nights during the season.

The sprints and lates also will be included in the points race for the track championship at the end of the season.

Also, the Speedway will host a night of racing on the United States Modified Tour on June 30.

The first night of racing is scheduled for April 28.

Schatz hits milestone: The 2018 World of Outlaws season began over the weekend in Florida. And Fargo's Donny Schatz is off to another strong start. Schatz, a nine-time series champion, won two of three features during the opening WoO weekend at Volusia Speedway Park.

Schatz reached a milestone with Saturday night's win. It was the 250th of his career on the WoO circuit.

Men's hockey

Wolanin, Thome honored: UND junior Christian Wolanin is the defenseman of the week in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference and rookie Peter Thome is the goalie of the week.

Wolanin had a goal and two assists to help UND to a series split against Colorado College in Ralph Engelstad Arena. Thome stopped 20 of 21 shots on Saturday night in helping UND to a 5-1 win.

Men's golf

Kirk leads UND: UND junior Jeremy Kirk shot a 74 to lead UND on Monday in the opening round of the Pat Hicks Invitational in St. George, Utah. Kirk is tied for 15th.

Utah Valley leads the meet with a 281; UND is ninth at 324.

Women's basketball

Mayville State player honored: Mayville State's Naomi Torgerson is the North Star Athletic Association player of the week after averaging 22.0 points in a pair of games. Mayville is 8-6 in the North Star and 17-8 overall.
