Severson is no stranger to success.

At last spring's Class A state track meet, she finished fourth in the 100 hurdles and the 200, as well as placing fifth in the 300 hurdles.

Success has come quickly in the hurdles events.

It was just a year ago, at the start of the 2016 season, that Severson decided to give the hurdles a try. Long-time Red River track coach Bob Zimney, who specialized in the hurdles, saw potential in the then-freshman in the events and encouraged her to stick with the hurdles.

Severson herself didn't know what to expect in her first season running the hurdles.

After that quick success, she's increased her expectations.
