Grand Forks Red River’s Shelby Frank won the discus championship Saturday at the New Balance Outdoor Championships at Aggie Stradium in Greensboro, N.C.
Frank won the event with a throw of 155 feet.
Frank edged runner-up Gretchen Hoekstre of Oregon, who threw 154 feet, 10 inches.
It’s the third-straight season Frank has won a national title in the discus.
At the 2019 North Dakota Class A state meet in late May, Frank became a six-time state champion winning back-to-back state titles in the shot put and her fourth-consecutive championship in the discus.
At the state meet in Bismarck, in challenging weather conditions, Frank threw 154-11 to easily beat out a runner-up throw of 112-11. She entered the meet with a qualifying throw of 167-0.
