The team is operated by Kunlun Red Star and was known as the Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays last season.
Last season, the Vanke Rays had a handful of former college hockey standouts on its roster including Noora Raty of Minnesota and the Finnish National Team, who is widely believed to be the best goaltender in the world, former Patty Kazmaier Award winner Alex Carpenter of Boston College and two-time national champion Cayley Mercer of Clarkson.
The team is currently looking for a new league to play in. It spent the last two seasons in the Canadian Women's Hockey League, which folded this spring.
Idalski spent 10 seasons at UND from 2007-17, leading the program to two NCAA quarterfinals. The program was eliminated in 2017 due to school-wide budget cuts. He coached at Culver (Ind.) Academy last season, leading the program to its first-ever trip to nationals.
