It’s been a busy week for Dickinson State University who announced an appointment to the position of interim vice president/provost and the first recipient of the Rob & Melani Walton Endowed Chair in Theodore Roosevelt Studies.
At best, we have a university president who leaned a bit too heavily on some personal relationships while supervising a sloppy procurement. At worst, we have a significant contract that was deliberately steered toward some friends of the president. Even worse, when asked to provide oversight, the NDUS issued some superficial findings completely out of step with just how serious a matter this was.
Multiple Eide Bailly Fraud Hotline complaints prompted an NDUS investigation that concluded findings that DSU was improper in their informal procurement process for instructional design with Wyoming-based Learning Corps.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, who noted in their accident report that weather conditions were windy with blowing snow and road conditions were ice covered.
Nearly 300 people are demanding the immediate termination or resignation of the university president, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Dickinson State University for what they say is a broad spectrum of concerns with administration. They highlight allegations of code of conduct abuses, including overreach of administrative authority, incompetence and allegations of illegal conduct and fraud.
Not only were hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of purchases made outside of the procurement policy required by state law, the North Dakota University System policy, and DSU policy, but this has been an on-going problem for three audits now.
