MINOT, N.D. -- A North Dakota credit union leader has been named to a national advisory council.
Town & Country Credit Union President and CEO Jeremiah Kossen will serve on the national Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Credit Union Advisory Council. He is the first North Dakota credit union leader to serve on this council, according to a news release by the credit union.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is a national government agency that helps consumer finance markets work by regularly identifying and addressing outdated, unnecessary or unduly burdensome regulations, by making rules more effective, by consistently enforcing federal consumer financial law and empowering consumers to take more control over their economic lives.
The Credit Union Advisory Council was created to advise and consult the Bureau on consumer financial issues related to credit unions.
Kossen brings a wealth of experience to his role on the Council. Prior to joining Town & Country in 2017, Kossen served as a regulator with the National Credit Union Administration and held multiple senior leadership roles over a 10-year career with Lake Michigan Credit Union, an $8.5 billion credit union.

Town & Country Credit Union focuses on agriculture and serving rural communities, according to the news relase, noting this broader perspective makes Kossen an asset to the Council and allows him to raise issues specific to North Dakota and local credit unions on a national scale.
Kossen will serve a two-year term on the Credit Union Advisory Council with seven credit union leaders from across the country.
“I’m honored to be selected for the Council and I’m looking forward to having a voice in national regulatory issues on behalf of all credit unions,” Kossen said. “I’m also looking forward to connecting with the team at the CFPB and my fellow credit union leaders through this role.”
