New special education facility completed in Kasson, Minn.

The $16.47 million, 61,031-square-foot cooperative special education facility for the Zumbro Education District was completed by Kraus-Anderson.

ROCHESTER, Minn. • Kraus-Anderson has completed a $16.47 million, 61,031-square-foot new cooperative special education facility for the Zumbro Education District, serving Kasson-Mantorville, Blooming Prairie, Byron, Hayfield, Stewartville and Triton, Minnesota.

KA said in a news release tha the special education/at-risk facility sits on 6.12 acres of land at 2002 Mantorville Ave. North in Kasson, and is a combined learning center for three unique program types for students in grades K-12. The programs include the Area Learning Center, ZED Special Education Setting IV Program, and Transition 2 Success for post high school students.

Designed by Wendel Architects, the new facility is designed to house staff and includes a two-station gym, playground, prep kitchen, and advanced learning environments that feature Art, FACS and Science labs.

KA said the project is among dozens of major K-12 construction projects KA will work on this year during its “Summer Sprint,” a critical, concentrated time during the summer months when school is not in session and when crews can perform work that ranges from new school construction to upgrades to deferred maintenance.
