Heavy rains prompted Valley City to adjust for a Sheyenne River crest that was four feet higher than first expected.
The Sheyenne Water Trail will run through four North Dakota counties and through the scenic Fort Ransom State Park.
Today's drought doesn't compare to the 1930s. The Red River in Fargo stopped flowing for 823 days beginning on July 25, 1932, the longest stretch on record that the river stopped running.

What's happening with Devils Lake water? In August, the U.S. Geological Survey indicated that the elevation of Devils Lake was about 1450.1 feet above mean sea level. That's down about 4 feet from the lake's modern high of 1454.4 feet four years ago.
