GRAND FORKS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

The approximately $10.5 million repair is part of an overarching, yearslong infrastructure upgrade at the airport, among the largest in its history. It’s expected to make the airport more efficient and increase its capacity.

Some of the best wildlife habitat in northeast North Dakota is near or between the airport and Grand Forks Air Force Base. That increases the potential for bird strikes at both sites.
The money comes from approximately $8.5 million in state infrastructure grants, overseen by the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission.

According to a release from the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission, GFK administrators were presented with the award at the FLY-ND aviation conference on March 8, in Fargo. Ryan Riesinger, executive director of GFK, accepted the award on behalf of the Grand Forks Airport Authority, airport staff and tenants.

Allegiant Air has resumed service in Grand Forks and Delta Airlines has upped the number of round-trip flights to Minneapolis to four per day.
