Q. I am moving out of the state soon. How do I find the correct Social Security office to change my address?
A. Using your ZIP code, you can find office location, hours and a map online at the "Find a Social Security Office" section of www.socialsecurity.gov . You also can report your address change by calling (800) 772-1213 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
If you already know your new mailing address and new direct deposit bank information, the national toll-free number or your current office can change your address for you.
Keep your mailing address current even if not changing your bank information. If changing financial institutions, keep your old account open until benefits are received in the new one. Depending on computer processing dates, this could take as long as two months.
Q. I receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits. If I move, will one call take care of both program address changes?

A. It can, but you should emphasize that both programs are involved when contacting your local Social Security office or national toll-free number. While your living arrangements do not matter for Social Security, they do for SSI. Expect additional questions for the SSI portion of your address change. You might have to speak to two different SSA representatives, depending on your specific situation.
