GRAND FORKS - A recent letter asserts that because Michelle Obama is a member of AARP, she is thus engaged in subverting the Constitution, because AARP supposedly endorses tighter controls on gun ownership (“Michelle Obama supports extensive anti-gun agenda,” Page A4, Jan. 25).
It is unfortunate that such conspiracy theories aren’t more constructive, such as one which holds that the Chinese invented gun powder anticipating that future enemies (Americans) would become so well-armed that schools would become unsafe and dysfunctional.
The gun-ownership fanatics and worshipers of the Second Amendment have obstructed passage of sane laws to control gun violence. We should question the sanity of those too invested in advocating for absolutist interpretations of the Second Amendment. They are partly responsible for America’s disgraceful reputation for gun violence and its many innocent victims.
