The action starts at 6:30 a.m. Sunday and won't let up until close to 11 p.m.

And if you have a mind to, you could take part in something new every hour in Grand Forks Town Square, as the Sertoma Club has planned one of the fullest Fourth of July schedules in memory.

The club works hard all year for the Fourth, which always is one of Grand Forks' busiest and most enjoyable events. Congratulations in advance to the club, which has planned another banner day and will be presenting its 52nd annual free fireworks show at dusk.

Fifty-two years! That puts the Sertoma Club's first Fourth of July fireworks show way back in 1958, when Dwight Eisenhower was president and Ed Sullivan graced local black-and-white TVs.

Did any Grand Forks youngsters bring their new toy, the Hula Hoop, to the fireworks? Probably, because the Wham-O corporation was making 20,000 Hula Hoops a day and would go on to sell 100 million in 1958 alone.

Then and in the decades since, the club's selfless service has brought smiles to the faces of generations of people in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. That's sure to happen Sunday, as well.

Besides the 52nd annual fireworks show, this year will mark the club's 19th annual Fourth of July Festival. And between the races in the morning, the Patriotic Kids Parade at noon, the petting zoo, Cutest Baby Contest, musical groups and more in the afternoon and of course the fireworks at night, the celebration promises to be great fun.

Come on out and enjoy the festivities. And if you see a Sertoma Club official, say thanks.
