When we are knee deep into October, we know the flavor is pumpkin. Once that meant jack-o-lanterns and pumpkin pie. Now it means pumpkin lattes and martinis; pumpkin cookies and pumpkin pudding. You can even find a recipe for pumpkin dump cake.
And could you believe - pumpkin turkey chili? Indeed. There will be a crockpot cooking session today in the culinary corner of the UND Wellness Center. And it will focus on pumpkin turkey chili.
The weekend is at hand with the children of Grand Forks roaming around through the leaves. The Grand Forks school calendar says no classes Thursday or Friday because of NDU Instructional Conference.
Most of the time, Grand Forks County Historical Society Guild members work quietly in their craft room at the Myra Museum. Every Wednesday morning, they visit and work on scarves, jewelry, metal trees and wreaths. This year they are holding their craft and bake sale early – between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. this Saturday.

Their profits help the Grand Forks Historical Society preserve the history of this county as time marches on.
Fan fest Saturday
The UND football team is taking this weekend off, probably carving jack-o-lanterns. The hockey team is away and counting on a slew of UND fans for games with Colorado College.
On the home front, the UND women’s hockey team is welcoming the team from University of Minnesota-Duluth tonight and Saturday at the Ralph … And there’s a Basketball Fan Fest Saturday afternoon at the Betty.
They say you don’t even have to know how to take part in the North American folk and barn dances coming off Saturday evening at the Eagles Club in East Grand Forks … And a production called “Doubt: A Parable” continues tonight andSaturday evening at Empire Arts Center … North Star Quilters are holding an educational conference this weekend at the Alerus Center … The last of the Art & Wine Walks sponsored by North Valley Arts Council is coming off downtownSaturday afternoon … The China Circus show will be held Saturday evening at the Chester Fritz.
