Letter: Yes, Rep. Sanford, big picture is best approach for appropriations members

How refreshing to read the comments of state Rep. Mark Sanford in the Jan. 11 Grand Forks Herald when he said, "I think it's probably fair to say that you're expected to be really big-picture on all committees, but particularly on this committee" (House Appropriations Committee).

We need more legislators in Washington and Bismarck with a similar attitude as Sanford's. Unfortunately some legislators still cling to parochial, insular or regional attitudes, but that time is past. We cannot afford not to consider "the big-picture on all committees," as Sanford so eloquently stated.
