Letter: What, exactly, are Republicans for?

There seems to be a pattern here.

Letter to the editor FSA

To the editor,

Once again, the Republican leadership in the U.S. Senate has convinced Senators John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer, along with other party members, to rubber stamp a big fat “no” on a Democratic proposal. This time it was the establishment of a bipartisan commission to investigate and report to the nation regarding the insurrection in the U.S. Capitol on January 6,2021. Congressman Kelly Armstrong had voted “no” when the resolution was passed in the House, including 35 other Republicans who put country over politics on that vote. Some Capitol police gave their lives in that insurrection. Their sacrifices demand a full accounting of the Jan. 6 debacle.

There seems to be a pattern here. Republicans did not want to give you $1,400 nor anything else in the stimulus package, but some Republican congressmen and senators went home and bragged about what they had given folks. They wanted credit for something they had been against back in Washington. Republicans are opposed to voting reforms, the so-called George Floyd police reforms, a broad-based infrastructure bill, and anything else that smells like something the Democrats would like. So far in this session there have been no bills submitted by Republicans in either house of Congress as far as I know.

And so I say to our North Dakota congressional delegation in particular and to Republicans in Washington in general: "I know now what you are against, so please tell me what you are for?"
