Letter: Uncomfortable with the idea of the proposed Fufeng plant

I am uncomfortable about China building a corn plant so close to Grand Forks Air Force Base.

We are part of The Trust Project.

I am uncomfortable about China building a corn plant so close to Grand Forks Air Force Base. Geography-wise, we are in the far north part of the corn-growing crops. Why is the Chinese plant not more interested in building something in the more central part of the corn-growing region. This makes me concerned about being so close to the Grand Forks Air Base. Perhaps the main incentive is to be close to the base for surveillance.

I am also concerned about our politicians and other people in leadership promoting this venture. What’s their gain? The only power we, the people, who value freedom, democracy and security, is at the ballot box. Please don’t vote for people who don’t share your values.

I’m from Park River. When I go to Grand Forks, I go on the interstate from the north. If this crazy, unrealistic venture comes to pass, I'm going to motor on 18 south to Hwy. 2 and enter Grand Forks from a different side of town. I’m for democracy, freedom, opportunity and protecting our country from things not good for our security.

The event was a reception at the UND Memorial Union Gallery for an exhibition of paintings by Paul Barr and ceramics by Margaret Cable. Stopped reading already? Too bad because the visual power on display until September 30 on the main floor of the Union is a head-turner, jaw-dropping if you look a tad longer.
Our leaders should support workers, no matter which sector of the economy they work in.
The threat to our democracy has now overtaken the economy as the #1 issue in the upcoming midterm election.
“Extreme.” This is a term that I observe to be much more used than in the past.
