I am dismayed but mostly alarmed that evidently the majority of over 74 million of my fellow Americans have lost faith in many of the pillars of our democracy. They have been led to believe that the free press is the enemy of the people, that they cannot trust our institutions such as the the CIA, the FBI, our intelligence agencies, our voting system, our postal system, the Center for Disease Control, the National Institute of Health, the Justice Department, the foreign service, the rights of Congress and its oversight responsibilities, the checks and balances of the three branches of government, and in science itself.
Lying and bullying have become acceptable behaviors.
It is acceptable to demonize and vilify anyone who doesn’t agree with them and believe they should be able to lock them up.
This is the way democracies become dictatorships. It has happened before.
