We lost Jim Hand of Grand Forks last week. He was a very special person.
Jim represented me in Grand Forks the entire 26 years I served in the United States Senate. Jim Hand was one of the unknown heroes of the Grand Forks recovery from the 1997 disaster.
He spent hundreds and hundreds of hours helping families, individuals and organizations get the help they so desperately needed after the floods, fire and blizzard of that year.
Many might not know his name or what he did, but the remarkable work of Jim Hand can be seen in every corner of Grand Forks. He played the same role in the Northwood recovery from the disaster there.
Jim Hand cared deeply about our people and gave his all to their comeback. He will always be remembered as a good and decent man who worked tirelessly to help the people he served.
His wife Gail, son Jordan , and daughter Ali were the loves of his life.
He will never be forgotten.
