A hero is someone who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. On Sept. 11, 2001, there were several heroes who gave up their own lives for others to live.
The first person that we should recognize is NYPD officer Moira Smith. Smith had been the first person to see the first plane strike the World Trade center. She then ran into the building trying her hardest to get everyone out in time. She was the only female NYPD officer who had died that day.
Welles Crother died trying to save others when the plane hit the second tower. He had carried a women down 17 flights of stairs and ran back into save others. After going back the third time, the tower collapsed while he was inside.
Mark Bingham was on flight 93 that was supposed to be headed to San Francisco but was actually headed for the U.S. Capitol. Bingham was a rugby player who thwarted the terrorist plot.
Rick Rescorla was on the 44th floor on the south tower when it got struck. He saved many people that day but lost his life in the process.
These are four of the unforgotten heroes of 9/11. A hero isn’t something you just get; you have to earn it. These people and more were recognized for their good deeds that morning on Sept. 11.
