Letter: State House sent wrong message to ND
To the editor,
Equal rights are fundamental to democracy and demonstrate that all people are worthy of respect and dignity. Special thanks to the Grand Forks City Council for unanimously affirming this principle at their meeting Monday night.
Unfortunately, the North Dakota House of Representative recently sent a much different message when they voted to rescind approval of the Equal Rights Amendment. This is a slap in the face not only to all women, but to all people. This action is deeply offensive to me and I am especially concerned about the message it sends to girls and young women who may not want to stay in a state where they are not considered equal.
Please contact your North Dakota senators to encourage them to vote "no" when this bill comes before them. Also, let your representatives know what you think of their actions.
