Letter: Northwest Angle debate is sheer folly
To the editor,
The petition drive to give Canada the Northwest Angle is sheer folly based on the notion that the 49 parallel separates Canada from the United States.
Although "49th parallel" is often confused for the American-Canadian border, estimates based on statistics of Canada's 2010 population figures state that almost 24 million Canadians (or about 70 percent of the population) live to the south of it.
Now if the Canadians want to discuss eliminating cross-border problems, let them trade New Brunswick, part of Quebec and Nova Scotia—basically everything south of the St. Lawrence Seaway for the Northwest Angle.
