I would like to warn future apartment hunters to please read their rent agreement thoroughly. Also, when they leave, they should request a walk-through with the landlord to inspect the apartment.
We had relatives who rented in a Grand Forks apartment complex. They wanted a six-month lease and were told, "Oh, it's a year, but we will change that."
The apartment was not cleaned when they moved in, but they still were trusting. They left at the end of January and are getting billed for the re-rental of the apartment, for cleaning (which was done thoroughly) and for breaking the lease, even though the end of January marked six months in the apartment for them.
During that six months, the doors had kept coming off of the closets, the bath faucet did not work and they had lot parking for only one month.
Please, for your own piece of mind, check out apartments thoroughly. Make sure you read all the fine print-and if the manager of a building says, "Oh, I'll change that," make sure that it's changed before you sign the lease.
