To the editor,

I'm an Eagle Scout and I attended the 1997 National Jamboree with the Northern Lights Council contingent.

I remember President Clinton's speech. It was an inspiring call for those of us in attendance to return to our communities and make the world a better place. It was about what makes the scouting movement a great asset to the United States and the world.

He didn't attack Bob Dole, his opponent in the last election, and he didn't attack George H. W. Bush, his predecessor. And he most certainly did not pepper his speech with profanity or stories that any reasonable person would see as inappropriate for an audience that is primarily 12 to 17 year old boys.

When a sitting president addresses the National Jamboree he's speaking to some of the best young people we have. If those kids don't deserve the best of us, I don't know who does.
