LETTER: 'North Dakota Nice' conspicuous by its absence in District 10

I am writing in response to the Herald story on the outcome of the North Dakota Republican Party's District 10 endorsing convention (" Myrdal wins GOP nod in District 10 ," Page C1, Feb. 21).

This meeting garnered a lot of media and local residents' attention due to its having four candidates vying for the endorsement.

Janne Myrdal emerged the winner. Then when asked by a Herald reporter for a comment, Myrdal acknowledged her victory, thanked her supporters-and proceeded viciously to suggest that candidate Curtis Olafson should step aside, given the fact that he had lost not only this endorsement race but also the primary election back in 2012.

The comment certainly shows a lack of class and grace after winning the endorsement.

As a former member of the Legislature, I can assure Herald readers that such an attitude would not be helpful when it comes to working on issues with others who have diverse opinions. District 10 constituents who support Myrdal should realize that she'll need to work with others on many issues that require collaborative reasoning, so she shouldn't engage in petty attacks.

In the Legislature, there is very little tolerance for vindictive remarks, including from people who disagree on an issue.
