To the editor,

It would appear as though our present Congress is populated by a large number of can kickers. They keep kicking the can down the road on much-needed legislation.

Can kickers are people who don't understand that for a true democracy to function the individuals who control it must know how to compromise.

They believe that compromise it tantamount to capitulation. Only dictatorships can operate without compromise.

It's not surprising that this attitude has permeated Congress. Our president ran on promises that only a dictator could make good on, i.e. getting rid of Obamacare, tearing up the Iranian nuclear agreement, seeking to get rid of NAFTA, etc. - all in the first day or two of his administration.

As he came into office he perpetuated his belief by populating much of his administration by individuals, such as CEOs and generals, who came from dictatorial positions.

If we want our democracy to survive, it's time to kick the can kickers out of office and elect representatives who know that compromise is not a dirty word.
