The Electoral College is essential for the two-party system. You have to be big in order to get 270 votes, and it is easier for two parties to be big than it is for three or more.
The bigger a party is, the more likely it is to be inclusive.
If it wasn't for the Electoral College , both Clinton and Trump would have received fewer votes. It's not rocket science.
