I'd like to thank the Grand Forks City Council for tabling the Arbor Park issue for one week and

scheduling a public hearing.

There appears to be some misunderstanding by all parties. Arbor Park supporters also are strong supporters of downtown. While some may have objected to the park's initial requested sale price or the tax breaks, our view always has been, "save the park as is, where it is."

We do not believe, as claimed, that there is any shortage of retail space in downtown. While there is a shortage of affordable housing in Grand Forks, condos at $300,000 will not solve that problem.

Nearly all of us would support this design if it were in a different location. But the council should either abolish the Downtown Design Review Board or follow its regulations.

For the supporters of Arbor Park, on Monday, it is show up or shut up. The council has reached out for the supporters' input. This could be the beginning of a more unified and transparent city. As a city, we have many key decisions coming soon. The council has invited us to the table. We should accept the invitation-RSVP not required.
