Marilyn Hagerty: Summer keeps moving along in Grand Forks

On this week’s Eatbeat there’s been a late summer stop at RBJ's Restaurant in Crookston and supper at Sky’s in Grand Forks.

GRAND FORKS — Summer moves along. August signals the days are numbered. On this week’s Eatbeat there’s been a late summer stop at RBJ's Restaurant in Crookston and supper at Sky’s in Grand Forks.

With DG (Daughter Gail from Bismarck), I found pleasant seating in a small dining room at RBJ’s in Crookston at lunch time. Other customers were visiting and enjoying meals from the buffet. The daily buffet choices include a salad bar, entrée, bread, potatoes and a fresh hot vegetable.

The menu listing entrees includes liver and onions ($10.99) rarely found in restaurants. It is described as just the meal for the person who loves liver but never makes it on their own.

Other entrees include steak and broasted chicken.

There are soups. salads and baskets also on the menu. The sandwich menu includes BLTs, fish fillets, chicken and turkey. And yes, egg salad. There are melts including “ultimate” turkey. Burgers are offered in six versions ranging in price from $2 to $11.99 for a “Supreme Burger.”

The restaurant is owned and managed by Kim Samuelson. It is open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Cloud 9 Lounge

Cloud 9 Lounge is part of Sky’s restaurant at 322 DeMers Ave. in downtown Grand Forks. With its long bar setting and casual seating, it is more informal than the large adjacent dining room area. But like the main seating area, it offers an “upstairs” view of the business area.

The menu for Cloud 9 Lounge is in addition to the main menu. It offers pub sandwiches served with rosemary garlic french fries. There is available a Reuben, a hot beef dip, smokehouse burgers and a patty melt.

Lahvosh is offered in three versions the Jerk Chicken is served with shredded chicken, grilled pineapple, green onions, cilantro and Havarti cheese. The veggie version is a combination of artichokes, roasted peppers, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms and basil with Havarti and parmesan cheese.

Tuscan is a combination of capicola, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted garlic oil, black olives and pepperonchcini with Havarti and romano cheeses.

With friends, we studied and ordered from both of the Sky menus. Service was good. Friendly and helpful.
