Eatbeat: The Shire in East Grand Forks mall is a 'convenient, colorful' spot to eat

A convenient, colorful and inviting spot adjacent to movie theater. Extensive menu. Busiest Thursday nights and weekends.

EAST GRAND FORKS — Before, after a movie — or during a visit to the mall — the Shire Bar and Grill has become a place to go. It’s located next door to River Cinema in the heart of the mall in East Grand Forks.

The Shire is located in the place where there formerly was a concession stand. It’s now an inviting grill and bar decorated to create memories of movies that come and go.

I studied the menu with friends TH (Tammy Howard) and MG (Mary Glessner). It’s an inviting, easy to read menu. If you order “There’s a Steak in My Boot” for $13.49, you get a basket of steak tips with a side of mushrooms and gravy.

There are burger baskets and grilled cheese sandwich baskets. And there are chicken baskets. This caught the fancy of TH while MG ordered what is called “The Porky Melt” ($14.99). I chose a classic BLT ($11.49), which was very good. Something I would ask for another time.

The Shire is a pleasant place to spend time in the mall. It has attracted steady customers during its first six months.

There are 13 tables and nine stools at the bar. The place is inviting and interesting. The walls are pine logs. The entryway is a stone arch that says “Wall Street.”
