One person found dead in Grand Forks apartment fire

The name of the person is not known at this time, police say

GRAND FORKS — One person was found dead after authorities responded to a call of smoke inside an apartment early Saturday morning.

Grand Forks police and fire department personnel and Altru paramedics were dispatched around 4:16 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, to 21 South 4th St. for a report of smoke in the complex, according to a news release from GFPD.

Upon arrival officers were able to visibly see smoke in the apartment complex.

Fire department personnel entered the apartment building and located one deceased person inside an apartment, according to the GFPD release. The identity of the victim is not known at this time, police said.

Fire personnel succeeded in putting out the fire in the residence without further incident.

Police said there is no known ongoing danger to other people or property from this incident.

The reason for the start of the structure fire is under investigation by the Grand Forks Fire Department.

The investigation is open and ongoing, police said.
