Tyrone “Terry” Carlson

Tyrone “Terry” Carlson, 74, of Rochester, MN, passed away on May 12, 2020 with his daughters by his side after a two and a half year long battle with cancer.

Terry was born November 15, 1945 in Grand Forks, ND.  He grew up in Forest River, ND where he graduated from Midway High School in 1963.  He attended UND and graduated in 1970 with a degree in Civil Engineering after which he accepted a position with the Washington State Highway Department.  He lived in Pasco, WA with his new wife Darlene (m. Oct. 18, 1968) and his first daughter.  In 1974, after the birth of their second daughter they moved back to Grand Forks where he took a job for the Dept. of Defense working as a General Engineer at the GFAFB.  In 1991 he took a position with the Air National Guard in Minot, ND until his retirement in 2005.  After retirement Terry and Darlene settled in Rochester, MN where both daughters were living.

Terry enjoyed many hobbies over the years including reading, hunting, jogging, golfing, autobody work and other garage-tinkering projects, camping and trips to the nearby casinos.  Nothing gave him more joy than watching his three grandchildren, Trevor, Olivia and Sophia, grow up.

Terry is survived by his daughters Lisa (Joe Garcia) and Buffy (Joel) Haugen; his three grandchildren; and two brothers Roger (Phyllis) and Richard.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, his parents Tollef and Ruby, and brother Ronald.
