Roy was born in Grand Forks, ND the son of Earl Sr. and Esther (Nelson) Dahl. He attended Central High School in Grand Forks, ND.

He met the love of his life, Grace Coffman, in 1969 and they were joined in holy matrimony on May 16, 1970. After moving between Grand Forks and Kansas City, MO area, they settled and raised their family in Manvel, ND beginning February of 1977.

Roy began his working life serving for 3 years in the US Army (1966-1969) as a Tank Commander serving in Germany and the United States. He then began work in the construction industry spending the majority of his career as a Cement Foreman/Finisher with Dub Construction out of Manvel. After briefly retiring from Dub, he spent the last several years working with his kids at Lawn King.

Roy’s passion was to make a good home for his family, adding on to, and improving their first home to better suit their growing family over the years and ultimately building his bride her dream home in 2012. In 1988 Roy and Grace made a commitment to take a vacation together every year, Hawaii was the paradise they chose 99% of the time. He also enjoyed giving his grandchildren rides in the Bobcat, helping anyone who needed an extra hand, keeping neighbors driveways clear in the winter (for fun), woodworking, Norwegian cooking, laughs and good conversation over a cup of coffee with friends; but most of all spending time with his wife, kids, and grandkids.
