Vernon Krile

Vernon Krile left his earthly home to be reunited with family and friends in The Next Place on June 26, 2022.

Vern was born October 21, 1935 in Grafton, ND to Joseph and Mary (Cicha) Krile. He grew up on his family farm in Vesleyville, ND. He entered the US Army and served from 1958 to 1960. He attended UND and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He worked in the field of Social Work for 37 years, ending as Supervisor of Social Services for Southeast ND. He met many wonderful colleagues and friends, working together and fighting for the impoverished and downtrodden.

Vern met his bride Dolorus Olderbak in 1958 and they were married December 30, 1961 at St. Mary’s Church in Grand Forks, ND. They had just celebrated 60 years together with a lovely gathering New Year’s Day 2022. Together they raised and nurtured six children. They moved several times before settling in Fargo and made it their home since 1971.

Vern taught his children and grandchildren the value of working hard and he ensured each of his children had a paper route by 5th grade. He had no problem seeking out and suggesting job ads for members of his family. His work ethic was instilled in him from age 12, when he tragically lost his father and had to take over working the family farm with his brothers.

He enjoyed the finest things in life, visits from family and friends, a hot cup of coffee and a homemade kolache, listening to MSNBC at full volume, debating politics, following GE stock, an occasional cold Pilsner and a lively Czech polka.

Vern is survived by his wife, Dolorus, Fargo, sons, Tim (Terry), Callaway, MN, Kevin (Diane), Hitterdal, MN, daughters, Michele (Bill) Neuhauser, Detroit Lakes, MN, Theresa Krile (Randy Munson), Lisa (Rich) Hermann, Moorhead, MN, and Leah Krile (Joe Hofmann), Detroit Lakes, MN, 14 grandchildren, Kristin & Mike, Kimberly & Rob, Bart & Karissa, Andrea & Tim, Ronnie, Allison & Josh, Amanda & Alex, Mariah & Charlie, Christopher, Alex, Andrew & Katherine, James, Aaron and Aidan, and seven great-grandchildren, Cameron, Arianna, Grayson, Mason, Avery, Caleb and Emilia, who put a twinkle in his eye. He is also survived by his brother, Ben (Evelyn) Krile and sister Rosalie (Lyle) Rose along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Vern was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jim, mother and father, Joseph and Mary, his brother and sister-in-law, Arnie and Pat, his niece, Sherry, and nephew, Matthew Olderbak.
