Gregory Matthias Wack

Gregory Matthias Wack, age 63, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Jan. 25th, 2023, surrounded by family in Sioux Falls, SD. Greg was born in St. Louis, MO on Nov. 5th, 1959, to Marguerite “Peggy” Wack and Joseph Wack, the 3rd of seven children. Greg was raised in Grand Forks, ND, loved wrestling and attended Central High School. As an adult, Greg lived and worked primarily as a Chef and later as a taxi driver in North Dakota, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma before returning to live near family in Sioux Falls, SD. Oklahoma had a profound impact on Greg as the community that guided him to sobriety with the support of AA. Greg returned to South Dakota where he became a caregiver for his mother allowing her to remain independent. Greg could strike up a conversation with anyone and spent his later years sharing this gift with all who entered his life. He enjoyed cooking, golfing, the St. Louis Cardinals, Maple Lake, and animals. Greg took an interest in his many nieces and nephews and went out of his way to have personal conversations with them at family gatherings. Greg shared his final gift with the donation of organs upon his death.
Greg is survived by his siblings Catherine Warren (Marion) of Phoenix, AZ; Madonna Stepanek (Jon) of Billings, MT; Joseph Wack of Grand Forks, ND; Monica Leach (Michael) of Sioux Falls, SD; Julie Manecke (David) of Trabuco Canyon, CA; Christine “Teeny” Mullady (James) of Sioux Falls, SD, and numerous nieces and nephews. Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Peggy Wack and Joseph Wack.
A private family service will be scheduled later.
