Fred Duane James Rivard

Fred Duane James Rivard, 90, Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Oslo, MN, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021.

Duane was born on December 4, 1930 in Big Woods Township, Marshall County, MN, the son of Fred and Eva (Bergeron) Rivard. On June 7, 1955, Duane married Agraphine (Aggie) Duray in Warsaw, ND. They made their home in Big Woods Township near Oslo, MN where he and Aggie farmed. In 1994, they moved to Lehigh, Florida before returning to Grand Forks in 2014. In 2017 he resided at Good Samaritan Center in East Grand Forks for 3 years before moving to Valley 4000 Square in 2020.

Duane was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Polish National Alliance. He loved to travel, and spend time with his family and friends. He was an avid polka dancer and card player. Duane was a frequent visitor to the Grand Forks and East Grand Forks Senior Centers.

He is survived by three children, Adele (Gary) Shane of Oslo, MN, Dale (Marianne) Rivard of East Grand Forks, MN and Ava (Jim) Archibald of Detroit Lakes, MN; eight grandchildren, Andrea (Dave) McKichan of Austin, MN, Amanda (Jim) Rogus, of Stephen, MN, Dale Jr. (Brette) Rivard of Mesa, AZ, Grant (Madeleine) Shane of Fordville, ND, Greg (Jen) Shane of Grafton, ND, Alyson (Chris) Larson of Detroit Lakes MN, Jon Archibald of Fargo, ND and Amy Archibald of Grand Forks, ND; three step-grandchildren, Christine (Tim) Sivertson of Thompson, ND, Colette (Jesse) Delacruz of Sacramento, CA and Tracey (Paul) Atkinson, England; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, William (Judy) Rivard of East Grand Forks, MN.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Aggie, his parents, brother Lloyd Rivard, sisters May Pilon and Winnifred Osowski.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 26, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks.

Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service at the church.
