Mervyn Dale Bjerke
Mervyn Dale Bjerke, 82, resident of Minnetonka, MN, formally of Plymouth, MN and Rancho Mirage, CA, slipped away quietly in his sleep on April 22nd. He was raised in Northwood, ND, and spent 4 years in the Air Force, Mainly at McChord AFB in the state of Washington. After getting his engineering certificate at Wahpeton, ND, He started his career with IBM in Minneapolis where he worked until his retirement. Not ready to completely retire, he worked for several years in various technical positions; and he and a colleague, Don Flyckt, formed a technical placement service. He spent many of his working years and well into his retirement as a member of the Plymouth Lions Club.
He is survived by Ruth, his wife of 57 years; children Wendy (Tim) Lasswell, and Ted (Samar) Bjerke, 6 grandchildren: Grace (Mark) Frank, Jack, Tommy and Anna Lasswell, and Mina and Ally Bjerke, and 1 great grandson, Palmer Frank; brother Gary and brothers-in-law Hugh “Chuck” Halverson and David (Terry) Halverson; cousins Kay Schwarz, Keith (Marian) Bjerke, Carroll (Alex) Monte, Harley (Sandra) Grefshiem, Gayle Gulbrandson, Larry Hanson, Myrna Monson, and Connie Huus; and many nephews and nieces. Our loss is his gain.
Funeral service will be held and live streamed at Vision Of Glory Lutheran Church, 13200 Hwy 55 in Plymouth, MN, on Saturday, May 15th at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The National Alzheimer’s Assn. (alz.org) or The Palm Springs Air Museum. (palmspringsairmuseum.org); or to a charity of your choice.
