John C. King
John C. King, 66, of East Grand Forks, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Methodist Hospital of Rochester, MN.
John Charles King was born September 6, 1953 in Grand Forks, to the late Charles and Mary (Driscoll) King. He grew up in East Grand Forks and graduated in 1973 from Sacred Heart High School where he played football and wrestled at a state level. In 9th grade, he met the love of his life Dawn Thompson. He took her for a cruise on his motorcycle and it was love at first ride. John went on to study at Wadena Trade School graduating with a Technical Degree in plumbing. John married Dawn at Sacred Heart Church on May 24th, 1975. Together they had three sons that were the joy of his life. He was a wonderful husband and father, admired by sons that looked up to him and often sought his advice and expertise. He quietly led by example- showing them how to be strong, loyal, hardworking men. He adored his grandchildren and had a way of making those close to him feel loved and special.
John enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the lake and at the “shack” in the woods. As his family grew to include three daughters (in-laws) and 9 grandchildren, it became his mission to build a “shack” for the whole family to enjoy. He succeeded and the time shared with family and friends up north were some of his most cherished memories.
In 2017, John retired from Johnson Controls after 29 years of service where he made many great friendships and was respected by his colleagues. He always had a smile on his face and a witty comment to share. John will be missed by many.
John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dawn King of East Grand Forks; sons Jason (Chelsea) King, Jeffrey (Noelle) King, and Jeremy (Lindsey) King all of East Grand Forks; his grandchildren Adelie, Bryar, Lula, Talon, Dash, Sullivan, Cole, Killian, and Creed of East Grand Forks; brothers James and Patrick King both of East Grand Forks; sister-in-law Ruthie McMahon of East Grand Forks; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother Thomas McMahon, sister Susann King, nephews Thomas and Michael King, sisters-in-law Rita King and Patricia King.
