Holly Annelle Marion

Holly Annelle Marion, age 73, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Friday, December 11th, 2020 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Holly was born on December 9th, 1947, in Belcourt, ND the daughter of Maxim and Avalon “Happy” Marion. Holly’s mother Happy was joined in marriage to Clarence “Grizz” Marcellais and together they raised 12 children.

She attended St. Ann’s Elementary School in Belcourt, Immaculate Conception High School in Stephan, SD and graduated from Belcourt High School in 1966. Upon High School graduation, Holly attended beauty school in Jamestown, ND. She later attended the University of North Dakota where she obtained a Bachelors of Sociology degree. In addition to her graduate program work, Holly left a footprint within the college of education, industrial technology department, Indians into Medicine (INMED) program, and assisted in Belcourt law and order. She later taught Sociology and Criminal Justice courses at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. Holly later ventured to secure work in Grand Forks as a Human Relations Officer. Her free time was spent volunteering for the Special Olympics.

Holly married Leigh Jeanotte in 1969. To this union, they shared three daughters. Lei Lani (Jeanotte) Sarno, Shawn (Jeanotte) Egeland, and Keri Marie Jeanotte. Their shared love of family kept them by each other’s sides throughout the years.

Family was always important to Holly. Quality time with her sisters playing cards, traveling, and visiting were some of her happiest times. However, family activities that included her grand kids will always be her most joyous memories. She had a variety of hobbies that included fishing, painting, crocheting, beading and jewelry making, crafting, playing board and card games, doing puzzles, watching scary movies, and cooking-especially her famous chicken soup. Local Bingo sessions and casino trips were among some of her other favorite past-times.

Holly is survived by Leigh Jeanotte; her daughters, Lei Lani (Richard) Sarno, Shawn (Chad) Egeland; grandchildren, Jacob Sarno, Ty Sarno, Carly Sarno, Breanna Egeland, Dylan Egeland, Jayden Jeanotte; siblings, Cheryl Kulas, Maxine (Otis) Burrell, Michelle Thunderhawk, Clarissa Sherman, Clarence “CJ” Marcellais, Cameron “Putter” Marcellais, Charlotte Marcellais, and Cornell Marcellais; brothers-in-law, Harry (Son Son) LaVallie and Richard Ralston and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Keri Marie Jeanotte; siblings, Betty (Enno) LaVallie, Charles Dean Marcellais, Carmen Marie Ralston; her parents, Maxim Marion, Avalon “Happy” and Clarence “Grizz” Marcellais; nephews, Michael and Joel Sherman and Myles Allen Enno; brothers-in-law, Lucien Enno and John Thunderhawk.

Mass of Christina Burial: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2020 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service and rosary service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Wednesday.

Burial: Calvary South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
