Henry “Hank” Slominski

Henry “Hank” Slominski, 90 of Grand Forks, was called to heaven on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

Henry was born on June 24, 1930 on the family farm near Ardoch, ND. He was the son of the late Frank and Monica (Mesheski) Slominski. He went to school in Ardoch Township and farmed alongside his dad and brothers. He later joined the army, during the Korean War era. He was proud of his time in the military and of being a Veteran. He married Yvonne and started his family at the farm in Ardoch; raising five children. They moved to Grand Forks where he began Henry’s Tile. He then moved to Arizona where they lived for eight years. They eventually moved back to Grand Forks where he began manufacturing cultured marble and building up his tile business. He also was known to fly a crop duster for the family farm.

Henry loved spending time at Island Lake where he began his lake-life adventures on and off the lake, giving family life-long memories to cherish. He enjoyed having family at the cabin in the summer—where he could be seen fishing, boating or riding a jet ski. He especially enjoyed the Fourth of July holiday when the entire family would get together and celebrate. He loved building and working with his hands, eventually building a cabin on Island Lake where they lived after his retirement. Henry and Yvonne were also snowbirds and one place he could relax was at his winter home in Surprise, AZ.

Henry was a kind, generous man, often buying friends breakfast at The Highway Host; or a Friday night beer at the VFW in Lengby-he loved to treat others and never expected anything in return. He valued hard work and enjoyed the challenges of all trades.

He will be remembered for his kind heart, distinct laugh, and spirited personality; as well as his ability to fix anything that was broken. He will be greatly missed.

Henry is survived by his children; Marcia (Craig) Hjelmen of Island Lake, MN, Terry Slominski of Elk River, MN, Brenda (Trent) Nikle of Elk River, MN; Loree (Ronnie) Garritson of Grand Forks, ND; Scott (Pam) Slominski of Grand Forks, ND; 11 Grandchildren and 16 Great-Grandchildren.

Henry is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Yvonne, brothers Steve and Charles, and sisters, Irene Howe, Carol Curtin, and Dorothy Schultz.

A memorial will be celebrated at a later date. Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks is in charge or arrangements.   Online guestbook available at
