Gayle E. Thorson

Gayle Thorson, 74, of East Grand Forks, MN died Saturday, November 28, 2020 at her home with her family by her side.

Gayle Emily Thorson was born on December 22, 1946 in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of Dallas and Theola (Normandeau) Filipi. Gayle grew up and attended school in Grand Forks, ND, graduating from Grand Forks Central High School with the Class of 1964. Following her high school graduation, she attended Aker Business College. On July 7, 1967 she was united in marriage to Ronald Thorson in Bygland Lutheran Church. She worked various jobs including Bridgman Creamery, Ramada Inn, Hospice, Cabela’s and Lutheran Social Services. She also worked alongside her sister Mert and brother Glen for many seasons of planting and potato harvests. She was so proud of her flower gardens. She spent many weekends with her YaYa sisters and loved to tell everyone about all the fun times they had. Her laugh was infectious and always left everyone she met with a smile on their face. She gave selflessly and showed her children and grandchildren what it ws like to live a life with a high moral compass. She just plain loved everyone. Her words of wisdom were “Dare to be different”. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. Love you little love you big love you like a little pig Oink Oink.

Family members who survive Gayle include her husband, Ronald Thorson of East Grand Forks, MN; children, Stacey (Doug) Peterson of Fisher, MN, Patricia (Troy) Pecka of East Grand Forks, MN and Matthew (Kelly) of Bygland, MN; 7 grandchildren, Ashley, Blake, Emily, Ryan, Mallory, Jordan and Sophie; 6 great-grandchildren, Avery, Blake, Blair, Andrew, Kora and Charlie; siblings, Leigh (Marilyn) Filipi of Fargo, ND, Edward (Lori) Filipi of Custer, SD, Richard Filipi of Park Rapids, MN, Kenny Filipi of Custer, SD, Joe (Cathy) Filipi of Prairie DuChaine, WI, Meridith (Scott Peabody) Krom of Meckinock, ND and Glen (Tracy) Filipi of Plymouth, MA; sister-in-law, Carylon (John) Ridgely and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Donald Filipi.
