Douglas Umphrey

Douglas Umphrey, 86, passed away on June 21, 2020 at his home in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He was born on September 26, 1933 in Inkster, North Dakota to Earl and Edna (Hunter) Umphrey.

Doug grew up in Inkster, North Dakota and graduated from Inkster High School. After high school, he served in the Army during the Korean War. After his service, he began work for the Great Northern Railway as a telegrapher and retired in 1997.

Doug married Margaret Sikes in 1956 in Fordville, North Dakota. They were happily married for 64 years. Doug was a Boy Scout Leader for many years and was proud of his Eagle Scouts. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and UND Hockey.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

Doug is survived by his spouse Margaret of Grand Forks, North Dakota; his sons Howard (Joy) Umphrey, Eric Umphrey, and daughter Mary Denault; grandchildren Christopher (Amanda) Denault, Hayley (Nick) Johnson and one great grandchild.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
