Dorothy Olson, 79, of Alvarado, MN, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 22, 2009, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, with her family by her side.

Dorothy Jane Hanson was born on March 22, 1930 in Alvarado, MN, the daughter of Ralph and Clara (Larson) Hanson. She was raised on the family farm and attended country school and graduated from Alvarado High School. Dorothy attended nurses training at St. Luke's Hospital in Fargo, ND before graduating as a registered nurse from Deaconess Hospital in Grand Forks. On October 28, 1949, she was united in marriage to Dale Olson at Elim Lutheran Church, rural Alvarado. They made their home in Alvarado. Dorothy worked at the Warren Hospital as the charge nurse on the night shift for several years and was known for her compassion and her ability to comfort her patients.

She was a member of the New Hope Lutheran Church and the Alvarado American Legion Auxiliary.

Dorothy loved her family and sharing her creativity with her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time at Pine Lake. Dorothy will long be remembered for her love of children and animals, her sense of humor, ingenuity and her wonderful lemon pie.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband, Dale; three daughters; Paulette (Jim) Thompson of Alvarado, MN, Deb (Gene) Cross of Bloomington, MN and Jennifer Olson of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren, Mandy (Gus) Lynch, Rachel Thompson, Spencer Cross and Andrew Cross; two great-grandchildren, Jones and Evie Lynch; three sisters, Ardis Ferencik and Norma Nicholls both of East Grand Forks, MN and Shirley (Daniel) Grabanski of Casselton, ND; brother, Ralph (Vivian) Hanson of Alvarado, MN; many nieces and nephews and her cat, Toomie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Connie Farder and brother, Duane Hanson.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Alvarado, MN.

Visitation: 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday at DuBore Funeral Home of Warren, MN and one hour before services on Saturday at the church.

Interment: Oaklawn Cemetery, Alvarado, MN.
